Virtual Networking: Are we tired of it, and do we want to be back in a room?

Why do we network?

It's a fundamental question to consider before delving into the nuances of virtual versus in-person networking.

Networking, at its core, is about expanding our circles, opening doors to new opportunities, and driving success through connections. Whether it's exchanging knowledge, advancing careers, or strengthening personal brands, networking is a dynamic process with the overall aim of driving success.

Virtual networking offers distinct advantages, primarily centred around simplicity and convenience. It expands the scope of possibilities, allowing for diverse connections and global interactions with just a few clicks. However, the essence of networking lies in self-promotion, learning, and being present, elements that find their true expression through in-person interactions.

While virtual networking may facilitate numerous connections, it presents challenges in trust-building due to limited nonverbal cues. Shared experiences, vital for genuine connections, can often be lost in translation.

Ultimately, the choice between virtual and in-person networking depends on individual preferences for ease and flexibility versus depth and authenticity. Finding a balance between the two may be the ideal approach.

In the realm of Executive/Business support recruitment, where human connection and collaboration are paramount, the value of in-person networking cannot be overstated. Despite the convenience of virtual interactions, the depth and authenticity offered by face-to-face meetings are irreplaceable.

Am I personally tired of virtual networking? No.

However, after the Covid pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, I longed for the return of real connections—the core essence of networking. For me, being in the room is where genuine connections are made and nurtured and I always look forward to it.

While virtual networking offers convenience, the richness of in-person interactions remains unparalleled and striking a balance between the two is key to harnessing the full potential of networking in our increasingly digital world.

With this in mind, we look forward to bringing people back together in person, and focussing on the human connection within our industry.
