How to ace an interview

We all know the feeling - waking up after a night of tossing and turning, a knot in your stomach and general feeling of ill ease - It's Interview day.

It's almost impossible to not have nerves before going into an interview -undoubtedly, they are daunting and, often, very nerve-racking concepts. We are here to help! Here are a few simple steps that will help you to ace that interview - and remember, -  nerves aren't necessarily a bad thing!

First things first, take an informed approach. Research the company and industry, read the job spec and company values and reflect on how your skills would align with this. Make sure you are well versed in your own skill set and have situational based examples at top of mind, however, be wary of over preparing (Yes, really!) as this may come across too rigid and lacking in authenticity.

Secondly, avoid waffle. Use the STAR method to answer questions. (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Actively listen to the question and consider how best you can reiterate your skills in line with the job spec in an answer. If you draw a blank, just ask them to expand upon the question, take your time and answer clearly and to the point.

Thirdly, always ask them a question. Make sure to have questions prepared to ask them at the end of the interview. This will show initiative and a keen interest in the company, and may set you apart from other candidates. Questions about the company's values and the team dynamic always go down a treat!

Finally, - breathe, you've got this!

Best of Luck,

The LS Team.
